Thyroid imbalances continue to be one of the most seen and treated issues from patients of the NFP practice. And while we have spoken about thyroid imbalances before several times, this time the focus is on protruding, goiter nodules on the thyroid. These tumor-like nodules are becoming more and more common these days; we will speak on some of the possible causes later on.
These nodules start off small in diameter and some may stay that way; they stay benign. However, some become enlarged and some actually develop into cancers. In a Western approach, some opt for and go for the surgical approach to have them removed. But some have expressed wanting to take a natural approach to remove them. What steps do they take then? Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) may have some answers through its combined formulas of herbal decoctions to reduce and drain the goiter nodules. Some patients have chosen to integrate their care, others have gone all in on Holistic; either way: both modalities have shown some promise.
Two of the main herbal combinations that have the most documented success are the San Jie Xiao Ying formula and the Ban Xia Hou Pu Tang formula. WIth the San Jie formula it has been shown to lessen the diameter of the thyroid nodules. WIth the Ban Xia formula, helping heal the nodules in the process. As far as reasons why goiter nodules are on the rise and occur leaves many practitioners baffled. But from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, ultimately the nodules form as a result of blocked Qi (Chi) energy, that results in stasis and there is no internal Spirit, blood or energy moving in the area of the thyroid gland.
There may be an emotional element to it as well. Many patients state that they are working through some unresolved trauma while dealing with the goiter nodule. Some TCM practitioners take it a step further and say that tampering with foods, GMO elements and the de-naturing of the soil has caused many more blockages in the body, including goiter nodules on the thyroid. The combinations listed above are just two out of many possible combinations related to treatment of thyroid imbalances these days. Both, western and Holistic practitioners have been looking for ways to get a hold of these issues that seem to be occurring at a rapid pace these days. If considering a TCM approach to Thyroid care, a quick investigation on contradictions and herbal regimens can be your best approach for success.
