When keeping our exercise routines, it can be common that many people would focus on strength training; as it does improve endurance and as well as shape the physique. And while this is certainly important, we also want to make sure that we are taking time to elevate the heart rate for health and Vitality. There are many ways to elevate the heart rate through exercise; yet there is one exercise that has been with us for thousands of years that it is linked with: Running.
Many, but not all people do, avoid running. And it is the opinion of that writer that this is not only a great disservice to their workouts, but also a disservice to their overall wellbeing, including their nervous system. Why is this said here? Because of that fact that running has been shown to not only increase the cardiovascular levels needed to keep the blood pump going: which provides energy throughout the day; but many Runners describe the feelings of having a constant Elevation in their mood and mindset most of the time. What we are talking about is that stable and elevated levels of endorphins that bring excitement, regulate stress and comes in the time of need when needed to make sound practical decisions.
In an era where many people look for stimulants outside of themselves (i.e. their own bodies), we just wanted to take a moment and again, highlight the benefits of running for both cardiovascular and neurological balance:
- Pushes forward more brain secretion of adrenaline. This means more fluid emotional charge and balance at the same time.
- More sense of self-awaresness as the body cools down after a run.
- Serotonin increase around after 30 minutes of the run.
- The body pulls in more oxygen towards the body, via the lungs. This greater influx of oxygen helps the person stay awake, more alert and steadily aware.
- Those who are able to keep their run, going after about 20 minutes,- many have described feeling the ‘Second Wind’. It’s as if they have broken through an invisible wall and have found more energy in the process of the body exerting energy.
When you combine all of these benefits together, we can see what we are talking about when we speak of ‘Runners Elevation’. The writer of this post, takes time to get his in weekly and has experienced this Elevation first hand. If someone is wondering how to make it a regular pattern, start at small intervals and then work your way up when it comes to the length of time. Remember, inside the body are many helpful compounds and neurotransmitters that are waiting to be activated and released by the person. Some of them are released by movement. This is a great gift we have been provided. May we activate them on a regular basis.
