Stomach Healing: A Whole-Body Concept.

Within the framework of the Unani and Sufi spiritual healing treatment techniques, it is understood that corruption of the stomach and bowel energy is the gateway to a diseased body over time. It has been said that there is no other organ in the body that is more misused and mistreated than the stomach. When looking to heal, for longevity, we must start with the stomach first.  It has been said that there has been no organ of a vessel that has been more abused more than the bowels of the stomach vessel over the course of centuries. So, from a starting point, healing the stomach is the first place to start.

This aligns perfectly with Naturopathic Philosophy that the stomach is perhaps the most abused organ in the body. Naturally, taking care of the bowel region is in fact taking care of the whole body, being that so many diseases originate from that point; it is a whole-body concept. But how? It has to do with first and foremost with adjusting and cooling the stomach temperament. When we are talking about adjusting stomach temperament and cooling it, we are talking about reducing the internal heat of inflammation by bringing more alkaline and healing energy into the area that ‘cools’ the stomach region, healing it from the inside out.

WHAT KEEPS THE STOMACH UNHEALTHY.

The biggest challenge to stomach vitality and balance is the reality of bowel autointoxication in our lives. The writer, like so many other holistic health practitioners, believes that underactive and underperforming toxic waste removal capabilities are at the center of so many allergy triggers, headaches, and episodes of low vitality. Because of this waste, toxic bacteria keeps getting circulated in the body. When this happens, most times the person in question won’t have enough stored power to force the body to move to a point of sweating and bowel elimination and thus the process keeps repeating itself.

The good news though is that although bowel autointoxication can wreak serious havoc on the stomach, making changes once noticed usually has a rebound time of almost immediately. The first place that we would start is of course, is with nutrition, then movement, stress management skills and then whole-body purging. The first step of all is to strengthen the stomach vitality first.

STRENGTHENING THE STOMACH.

If you feel that our bowel and stomach energy is out of alignment there are foods that can help with the healing and process. Here is a short list of foods that can start with this process: pomegranate, quince, oranges and orange peel, ginger root, cinnamon, senna, cloves, cardamom, mint, and cucumbers. These foods can also help with the cooling process that we spoke about earlier. To take it a step further, since it is known that stomach cancers are on the rise, consuming large daily amounts of allium vegetables like garlics, onions, leeks, chives and scallions have shown to be affect preventative measure in keeping stomach cancers away, posing the least risk of contracting gastric cancers.

To bring it back to the original point, healing the stomach region is in fact setting the way to get in front of so many other chronic health problems before they even get started or has already started; The gateway is the stomach. Putting regular bowel health practices to use on a daily basis, may in fact be the best place to start when thinking of longevity and being able to do it in a way that is not complicated and tiresome. It just takes a little extra care and focus on an organ that is often overlooked: the stomach
