Herbal Approaches to Excess Cortisol.

What are the physical manifestations of excess stress internally, inside the body and its effects on the nervous system over time? This is a question that more Practitioners are starting to ask more in the present time because they are seeing the wrecking effects of excess cortisol in the body constitution of their patients and clients. Cortisol is the main and overactive stress hormone, that floods the bodily system when in or faced with adverse circumstances. Excess cortisol if not managed properly over time, can cause adverse health reactions.

Naturopathic Doctors have used two targeted herbs to address the cases of out-of-control cortisol at present: Magnolia and Phellodendron (Amur Cork) Amurense. These two herbal formulas have long been noted at addressing the specific cortisol aspect of the stress that builds up in people’s lives. When taken towards bedtime and the end of the night, it has been shown to not only maintain proper body weight but with regulating stress and balanced psychological measures in the process. This is so helpful because so many individuals are dealing with micro-traumas on a daily basis. When taken at 250 milligrams, 3 times for 6 days a week. As people learned about the natural healing affects, they placed in their lives more, and some chose to integrate treatments.

So why address the topic at this particular time? It is being addressed because of the rampant reports of excess cortisol flooding with patients at almost every turn; and this can burn out the bodily systems and adrenal glands and cause more overloaded stressors. This is also known as the consistent manifestation of fight or flight syndrome. Constantly being in a fight or flight state can not only cause a physical breakdown in the body, but with immunity as well. In addition to flooded fight or flight state, symptoms can include:

  • Weight gain – particularly in the midsection of the gut region.
  • Fatigue.
  • Depression.
  • High blood pressure.

Beyond this, irregular cortisol imbalance affects carbohydrate metabolism. So how are we to counter this?:

PATH OF NUTRITION.

-Keep on eating with a regimen of at least %50 raw fruits and vegetables.

– Eliminating diary in your life whenever possible.

– Adjusting your caffeine intake or elimination altogether.

-Avoiding alcohol and tobacco as these serve as triggers.

Of course, this should not be considered the final say in how you can reduce stressors in your life, keep searching for the right method that works for you with positive outcomes. But this can serve as a great starting point towards methods to get cortisol levels under control for more sustainable outcomes.
