Sleep Regeneration.

Visiting the topic again, after an amazing Live Podcast with a Sleep Medicine Specialist who heads up the Sleep studies department, for USC; we have to discuss and talk about the role that sleep plays in health and longevity for the body  and mind. This is still a very important topic for people to understand and grasp. Sleep- something that we all experience on a daily basis, but is often misunderstood when it comes to the role that it plays from a Holistic Medicine sense.

The Sleep Expert explained that the foundations of Sleep Medicine actually comes out of the Psychology and Neuromedicine fields. All disciplines can be connected within understanding sleep. But what we know is that as we age, our sleep patterns can get disrupted. And this is what we want to go over today.

With aging comes some patterns of sleep disruptions and we have to be mindful regarding this when it comes to how we understand Sleep Regeneration. When we sleep fully, we detoxify our cells, our heart rate slows down, and our bones and muscles heal. This is why it is so important that dedicated sleep be a part of our Holistic Health protocols. As we have said before, sleep is nature’s restorative for all beings, and not getting the full amount of it, depletes Life Force. And more recently, we are finding that good sleep addresses chronic pains, ulcers and in some cases of bladder disruptions.

So what is the opposite of good quality sleep? Out of that we see brain fog, delayed reaction times, excess hunger, patterns related to obesity, and emotional triggers. The Sleep Medicine specialist went on to say that as the field of Sleep Medicine has evolved, they understood that there are ‘sleep channels’ that are to be taken into account when looking at what healthy sleep is. And a part of understanding those channels is the fact that when oxygen absorption is blocked in the body when we sleep; this blocks the daily regeneration that we need on a consistent basis.

The key is to induce better and deeper sleep. How can this be done? Taking steps to induce greater and harder exercise during the day times, cutting off caffeine times before 1:00p.m; keeping the room at cooler temperatures during sleep times and using blackout curtains whenever possible. These are some simple steps forward to keep our health Vital from a Naturopathic point of view. And having a healthy sleep pattern is all a part of it.
