While it is important to know what Naturopaths do, it is important to comprehend the philosophy of this belief. This belief is and should be at the core of treatment. It is that the human body and the soul inside and around it can excel at its highest with the foods and herbs provided to them by the Creator; is a core essence of Naturopathic philosophy and treatment.
The philosophy of naturopathy goes even deeper: nature’s medical system has been around thousands upon thousands of years before the medical systems that we know of today. Various cultures employed at least some form of natural healing in their society because that what was around them, nothing else. This is just a historical fact. So that Naturopath takes this knowledge and applies it when treating the ill and infirm.
So, this begs the question: “How can we challenge over 30,000 years of well documented Holistic and Natural Healing practices?” The simple answer to this question is: “We Can’t.” Now more than ever is a time to return to what is known as the Fitrah (The Natural Order) of eating and living. This is what true Naturopathy is. Below are some steps as to how the philosophy of Naturopathy is executed out in actual practice:
- We can first apply these principles with the foods we eat. Over time, the body doesn’t actually recognize and extract nutrients of excessively processed foods synthetic foods. The aim within naturopathy is to consume more recognizable foods that we know of.
- When we are ill, what treatments do we seek out? The unfortunate aspect of this is that some people are scared or dissuaded from trying holistic treatments. But the truth of the matter is that, trying more natural and holistic treatments may be the actual answer to an ailment that they have been seeking.
- Many people’s lives are being cut short from preventable and often times, socially related diseases. Naturopathy pulls together the knowledge of exercise, stress management, nutrition, herbology and lifestyle considerations as a method of treatment for prevention to not become ill in the first place.
From a Naturopathic point of view, every disease and ailment has its root cause; healing takes place beyond just looking at a symptom. And a disruption in following the laws of the fitrah eventually leads to a health imbalance somewhere down the line. But there is hope and an opportunity for change with each new day, each meal and each opportunity when we engage in regular exercise for the better. Naturopathy is both a way of thinking and being as well as a way of acting in harmony with everything around you.
