Traditional Naturopathy is about keeping in line with all of the natural healing elements and mainstays on earth; around us at all times. Granted, we have covered the healing powers of food, herbs, exercise and mindfulness for over more than a decade on this site. But with this particular discussion and exploration, we are discussing the Sun with all of its miraculous and amazing capabilities. Oftentimes shunned, and seen as causing more harm than good, the Naturopathic framework looks at the sun as an ultimate healer and synthesizer that transforms not only plant-life, but also the lives of humans as well.
Recently, there has been some discussion as to the possibility of the fact that the sun and its light rays have an impact on the human genome. In the right amounts, sunlight converts Vitamin D and C functions in the body, bringing out their true healing capabilities. The healing power of the sun is seen in a person even more, when that person eats large quantities of green vegetables; the chlorophyll from those green vegetables is activated by sunlight; giving that person sustained energy.
But the healing powers of the sun go far beyond just affecting the plant-foods that are in a person’s body; it appears that sunlight has a direct impact on the lessening of pain. In a recent study, it was found that those patients who stayed on the light side (sun facing) noted less perceived pain after their operations, less stress and requested less analgesic medications. And what researchers have concluded is that this may have to do with the fact that sunlight turns on mitochondrial power in the cells, thus changing perception, speeding up recovery and turning on the Vital Life Force. This is actually a groundbreaking discovery. The sun is a consistent, guaranteed unlimited source of literal energy. We are more than a physical composite of being walking so-called junk D.N.A.
The sun’s abilities don’t stop there- it regulates sleep and true wake cycles. When we get right down to it: lack of natural sunlight is a promotion of ill health. However it is true that there are many societies where consistent sunlight is lacking; their genetics provide them with the ability to survive in such conditions. Dr. Bernard Lust went so far as to say that direct sunlight has an effect and manipulates how bacterias and viruses behave.
Concerning supplementation; while it is true that the sun is responsible for the growth transfer of living things, it may be necessary for some individuals to supplement Vitamins D, K, and Iron to remain healthy.
A PATH OF DRUGLESS HEALING.
Healing without the use of drugs or major bodily invasions is what sets the art of Traditional Naturopathy apart from what people know of in standard medical care today. As a famous Naturopath once described ”…Drugless Healing, or simply healing without having recourse to drugs means the same as Natural Hygiene…” It is this element of Natural Hygiene that considers the sun, as well as all the other elements of nature: tools for healing the sick and raising the Vital Life Force. Yet, how each Practitioner goes about it is truly unique. We are certainly living in a time where the sick and the people at large are looking for ways to stay healthy in a sustainable way. Traditional Naturopathy offers those solutions. As far as getting the right amount of sun is going to be different from person to person. But what we do know is that even a few minutes of it a day can have great results. Please keep with the recommendations of your Doctor if you have been told to limit sun exposure. With health and wellness to all.
