Often times in the quest for trying to keep up with the latest juicing trend or latest discovery as to what the new Superfood catch phrase is for the week, it is very easy to forget the simple ways that you can keep your body and your mind healthy on a consistent basis. So what are some of easiest ways and steps that we can take in order to keep good health within reach of you at all times? Well, the answer may be as simple a phase that we all grew up hearing throughout and continue to hear on a regular basis….yeah that one about eating a apple day to keep the doctor away.

While if we had a dollar for every time that we heard that, I’m sure that many of us would have a good chunk of change to spend by now. But while we may think this phrase is cliché or an over exaggeration, science has shown us that there may be indeed some truth to this often played out statement after all. From a Holistic Nutrition stand point, many of the ailments and body discomforts are related to the improper balance and poor constitution of the stomach: correcting this imbalance is the first step to proper health and balance from this stand point.  Here are some of the amazing benefits of eating our favorite friend, the Apple:

  • Apples contain a high amount of natural dietary fiber which aids in the easy flow of digestion which then in turn removes the bad cholesterol in your body.
  • The Phytonutrients in the Apples fight off free radicals in the body, which act as an anti-aging agent.
  • Apples contain B-Complex vitamins such as Riboflavin, Thiamine and Vitamin B-6 which is excellent for keeping healthy nerves.
  • Apples contain considerable amounts of Calcium.
  • Apples have the necessary amounts of Vitamin C to combat colds, fatigue and stress that the body experiences on a regular basis.

In addition to this there have been some studies that have linked eating apples on a regular basis to improvement in ones state of mental health. Why is this so? It is so due to the fact that it contains a enzyme called Quercetin which has been shown to reduce cellular death of brain neurons, which is also a great defense in combating dementia. And besides all of this, eating apples on a regular basis have been highlighted to fight off having strokes.

I often speak to many people who tell me that they want to improve their health, however they feel overwhelmed about what to do or intimidated to go to the local “Health Food” store to see whats available to them. This doesn’t have to be the case or as complex as it is often times portrayed; it does not have to be more than it has to be. Eating well is just exactly that: eating well. If you are not yet ready to put together complex Alkaline menus (which is not complex at all) or ready to plan a one month Juicing regimen, just eating fresh and clean fruits like apples on a consistent regular basis is a good start. Eating them daily would be optimal, but may be unrealistic for many of us. Eating them weekly is a good start; the days…will be left up to you decide. Everywhere you turn is an opportunity for a better ‘you’, a healthier ‘you’ and a simple and straight forward way to start is with the basics; Apples.  Good nutrition 101. Here’s to your health.
